A fit or fitting is what should happen when you pick up your completed glasses at the optical shop. It determines proper lens alignment to your eyes and fit of the frame to your nose and ears. It also determines the wearing comfort of your frame and how well you see out of your new glasses. A properly fit frame will not cause irritation or allow the frame to slip down your nose. An adjustment is putting the frame back into proper fitting alignment after a bump or fall.
You will probably have to ask for it. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) says your eye doctor must give you a written copy of your eyeglass prescription at the conclusion of the exam without you asking for it and without extra cost. And no; you do not have to sign a form or disclaimer to get your prescription. You can read about it here: www.ftc.gov, and search "eyeglass rule".
It could be one of several things; or a combination of things: The glasses were not accurately made to the prescription. The prescription is not right. You should wear them continuously for two weeks to see if you adapt to them. If not, you should not wait any longer to make another appointment with your eye doctor. If done in a timely manner, there probably will not be an additional charge to check your prescription. At Clear Vision Optical, one or both lenses will be remade at no charge to the new prescription. The most common reason for compromised vision in new glasses is poor fit. You can have your glasses properly fit to you at Clear Vision Optical at no charge, even if you got them somewhere else.
High definition lenses are also known as digital lenses. They are produced with an advanced computer controlled process that renders the prescription with a much higher degree of accuracy than the traditional grinding method. This translates into sharper vision for you. These lenses are also sometimes referred to as "free-form" lenses.
You may experience temporary discomfort such as headache, blurriness, and eye strain from wearing the wrong prescription. Poorly fitting glasses can have the same effect. However, no permanent damage to your eyes will occur as a result of wearing the wrong prescription.
Anti-Reflective gets more light through the lens and into your eyes; so you get a brighter, clearer image. Getting 8% to 12% more light to your eyes can really make a difference, especially in low light situations and at night. Anti-Reflective makes your lenses nearly invisible, so there is no peering through unsightly reflections and your eyes can be clearly seen by someone that is talking to you. No more having to take your glasses off for pictures because of the white glare on your lenses. Anti-Reflective unclutters your vision, especially at night. Lights at night, including headlights, do not have the "star burst" that is caused by a reflection on your lenses. Also, you also get 8% to 12% more light to your eyes when you need it most.
A visual acuity of 20/20 means you have normal or average vision. This is a comparison of your vision to a normal sighted person. It means that if you are 20 feet away from an object, you will see it as clearly as a normal sighted person. In this fraction, you are always the first number; but the normal sighted person may move around. That means that if you have 20/30 vision, the normal sighted person is at 30 feet and you have to be at 20 feet to see as good as that person. You are not seeing as good as the other person. However; 20/15 means that the other person has to move 5 feet closer than you to see what you do at 20 feet, and so you are seeing better than the other person. A few rare people can see 20/10; but is that "perfect vision"? The standard eye chart stops at 20/10, but some undoubtedly could even go beyond that. It is nearly impossible to define what perfect vision is.
Almost always you will be able to use your frame again for your new prescription. If you have been told your frames are too old or not in good enough shape for a new set of lenses, please stop in for another evaluation by Paul. You should also know that is not necessary to keep your glasses for 1-2 weeks while your new prescription is made. At Clear Vision Optical, you can wear your present glasses while new lenses are made to fit them. Then the new lenses are switched for the old while you wait and you are never left without glasses to wear!
